Providing Support in Bristol and South Gloucestershire

Each year we support around 180 Bristol and South Gloucestershire families with at least one child under 5 years old who are going through a difficult time. We have been changing the lives of families in Bristol and South Gloucestershire for over 40 years.

Our home-visiting service is part of what makes us special. We visit parents in their own home so that we can really get to know them and their families. We never judge a parent and are always compassionate and put the needs of families first. Parents tell us the bond they make with staff and volunteers is the most important part of our service for them.

Most of the families supported by Home-Start Bristol and South Gloucestershire are through referrals from other services, for example children’s centres, health visitors, GPs or social services. Families can also contact Home-Start Bristol and South Gloucestershire directly.

Once we receive a referral form we will chat with families to find out what parents need and match them with a volunteer who is best placed to help them. That might be someone who speaks the same language, comes from a similar background or experience or who has the skills the parent needs the most.
