At Home-Start Bristol & South Gloucestershire, we are always inspired by the passion and generosity of the people who support our work. And we want to shout about one of those people, the brilliant Lisa from Your Marketing Sidekick, who not only brings energy and creativity to our marketing meetings, but recently went above and beyond in a truly incredible way.
After hearing one of our team casually say, “Wouldn’t it be great if someone ran a marathon for us?” Lisa took that to heart, and she signed up to run the Manchester Marathon in aid of Home-Start BSG!
Here’s some words from Lisa about her journey:
“Having run the London Marathon in 2022 I wasn’t sure if I’d ever want to run another! I had enjoyed the experience immensely, but I wasn’t in any rush to sign up again. That was until working closely with the Home-Start Bristol & South Gloucestershire team through my business Your Marketing Sidekick. In one of our marketing meetings a team member had casually commented in conversation, “Wouldn’t it be great if someone ran a marathon for us,” and that stuck with me. A group of my friends started chatting last year about potentially entering a marathon together, so I knew the stars were aligning! I jumped at the chance to join them and run the Manchester Marathon for Home-Start Bristol & South Gloucestershire.
This time I took the training seriously and really committed to the 3-4 training sessions a week – I really wanted to do the charity proud and raise as much money as possible. I ended up suffering with shin splints in the final weeks of training which impacted my expected finish time, but did not deter my ambition to complete the marathon! While it wasn’t as comfortable (or quick) as I had hoped, it was a fantastic day, and I am so proud to have run through the streets of Manchester and surrounding areas in my Home-Start Bristol & South Gloucestershire vest – crossing the finish line in just under 5 hours!
Thank you to everyone who supported my journey and the race day itself, the crowds were fantastic, and the messages of support and donations from friends, family and clients has been overwhelming! I’m delighted with smashing my initial target of £1,000 and reaching the £1,400 mark in fundraising! I look forward to continuing our collaboration together, supporting Home-Start with marketing advice and other volunteer opportunities.”
You’ll be pleased to hear that Lisa has now fully recovered from her shin splints and, after some much-deserved rest and recuperation, is happily back to running and strength training!
We’re so proud and grateful to Lisa for her dedication, energy, and incredible effort. The funds raised will go directly toward supporting local families who need a helping hand during challenging times.
From everyone at Home-Start BSG: Thank you, Lisa! 💜
